    One of the things I most struggle with is the fear of making mistakes.

    It’s that yearning to do something really well. To get it right, and to get it right the first time. To want my first draft to be my final draft.

    Can you relate?

    I have conversations day in and day out with clients, colleagues, and friends about how deeply it is important to us to operate excellently... and the shadow side of that is perfectionism.

    Although I’ve done loads of internal work around this, the most effective way I’ve been able to untangle this pattern from my system has been through dance.

    I’ve been learning salsa and bachata for two years now, and I joked the other day with a group of colleagues that dance has taught me more about personal development than most workshops and seminars have. This is because it’s an actual chance to practice and embody the inner work.

    One of my dance teachers is a sweet, lighthearted guy who has a way of bringing me back to my body and making me laugh while I’m learning.

    The other day, I made a little mistake and stepped on his foot.

    His response GOT me:

    “Don’t worry about the mistake. Just focus on the solution.”

    It was such a passing thing for him to say, but in that moment, I felt that code land.

    A few weeks later, I asked a fellow male dancer what makes a woman fun to dance with. He said it has nothing to do with skill once you’re past the basics — the fun ones are the ones who, when they mess up, just tweak, adjust, and move on. They find a solution. Same teaching, coming from someone who didn’t know my teacher. Coincidence, much?

    It’s not about making the mistakes... It’s about who I am when I catch them. How I respond to them. Whether I take accountability and how quickly I move forward towards something better.

    At the end of the day, what matters the most is how you feel in the creative process.

    There’s a prayer I recite almost every morning.

    “I choose to trust the great genius unfolding in my life.”

    Learning to trust has been one of my biggest spiritual practices in the last decade. Not THINKING I trust but fully feeling it, in my body and my bones.

    It’s easy when things are flowing. My faith gets tested in the exact moments they’re not.

    The default most of us were taught is to point outside: why is this happening to me, what’s wrong with this person, what’s wrong with everything. The second default is to turn that same blame inward as shame and self-punishment.

    Both keep you stuck. They’re the same pattern, just pointed in opposite directions.

    The posture that actually moves something is different. It asks: what is being mirrored to me right now? Is a wound still playing out here? Do I need to learn to say no, hold higher standards for who I let close, take better care of myself?

    What am I being asked to grow into through this?

    I had a client for example who spent years attracting the same wound in different faces — people who kept mirroring her unresolved father story back to her. She suffered through it for a long time. Until one day, instead of asking “why is this happening to me again?”, she started spotting it. “Oh, I’m doing it again, aren’t I?”

    That awareness was the switch. She didn’t eliminate difficulty from her life... She became someone the old difficulty couldn’t hook into anymore.

    You will be challenged, that doesn’t end. But when you trust the great genius unfolding in your life, you stop spending your energy asking why it’s happening and start reinvesting it on understanding what it’s here to teach you... so you can learn the lesson and move on.

    That’s how you change your life.

    In 2022 I went to Egypt on a sacred journey with my mentor.

    One of the temples we visited was the temple of Sekhmet — the ancient Egyptian goddess of fire, transformation, and fierce feminine power… One of the oldest deities in history.

    Warriors prayed to her before battle. She was the one you called on when you needed the courage to face what you had been avoiding.

    When we reached her chamber, I placed my hands on her altar and closed my eyes.

    What happened next I have not shared until now.

    I felt a surge of energy coming up through my hands from the stone. Like the world stopped. And through time, space, and dimension, I could feel her fierceness running through my system, through my veins. I opened my eyes and found myself looking directly at my mentor, who raised her iPhone and took this photo.

    A photo that, to this day, is the clearest transmission of my expression when I am in my power.
